How to register a site?

So, you made the first version of your site and even posted it on the Internet, but after a while you will notice that almost no one visits it, except for you and occasionally your friends. But the page, perhaps, will be interesting to other people, and if you have your own company, then it is simply necessary that other people can get to your site.

Why does it happen that the counter on your page almost does not increase? Everything is simple – so far no one knows anything about you. It’s time to do site promotion – increasing the daily number of visitors. There are several ways to achieve this:

registration in search engines,
banner exchange networks,
mention of the site in a web browser,
print ads in newspapers and magazines,
notification of the appearance of the site in the corresponding echo conference,
exchange links with related sites,
mention of the site address in correspondence, etc.
Today we will deal with the simplest but most effective way of promotion – registration in search engines and directories. How to do it right? And in general, what is meant by “correct” registration? In my opinion, “right” means that in response to a query on the topic of your site, you get a list of links in which your site is one of the first.

Let’s define the terminology. There are search engines, and there are online directories. Let’s start with the search engines. In fact, this is a very large database that stores the full texts of all registered sites. A necessary component of search engines are robots. The robot is a small program that follows the links on the site and indexes all the pages encountered along the way. To register, we must inform the robot the address of our site. Search engines are quite busy, because tens of thousands of queries come daily. For this reason, after you send a request for registration, it will take about 1-2 weeks before the site is actually indexed by a search robot.

Internet directories – lists of resources, categorized. There are specialized and general. The main difference between them and search engines is that all requests are viewed by people who evaluate the value of the site, select a category for it in the catalog and adjust the description you provide.

Before you register a site, you need to prepare a little – later this will save us a lot of time. And you need to start by searching for keywords and compiling an intelligible description of the site.

Keyword selection should be taken seriously. Their correct choice allows you to greatly increase the position of the site for requests.

What words should be chosen? Of course, those that most faithfully reflect the specifics of your site. In doing so, try to avoid unnecessary and general phrases. Imagine yourself as someone who is trying to find your site. What words would you start your search for? What would you type in a search engine?

You need to select about 20-30 keywords. And then check them out by typing in a search engine. List of which sites are being returned? Are they related to the theme of your site? If yes, then good – that means you have more or less picked up the basic words. As an example, look at what keywords are used in the pages found.

Description of the site
The description should be concise and succinct. To make it clear at a glance. Indeed, in the search engine information is displayed in small portions about each site found, and we simply do not have space for more than one small paragraph.

When writing a description, you do not need to specify the name of the site, it will be indexed anyway. Also try to avoid common phrases like: “It will be interesting for you here”, “Everything is on this site”, “Come in, you won’t regret it!” etc. Describe the content of the site, the visitor will figure out if he needs to go to your page. After all, you need not just a visitor, but your visitor! What is the joy of leaving the page, just glancing at it and making sure that it does not fit the description?

Preparation for registration
Well, the description has already been made, the keywords are found. But do not rush, because all directories and search engines, when registering, request almost the same information. Each time, introducing it is a rather tedious and long task. You can speed up the process if you make a short passport of the site in advance. Which might look something like this:

Site Name: Web-studio “Cherry-Design”
Website URL:
Site description: Design and manufacture of web sites, their support and promotion on the network. Articles and links on web-design, useful recommendations.
Keywords: design, design, web-design, web design, web-mastering, web, web, www, support, promotion, advertising, banner, banner, button, optimization, articles on web design, links for web design , gif, jpg, HTML, JavaScript, CGI, SSI, ASP, cherry, cherry.
